David Paterson sworn in as New York’s 55th Governor
David Paterson has been sworn in as Governor of New York and is addressing the State Legislature. In attendance are Senators Schumer and Clinton, former NY Governors George Pataki and Hugh Carey, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, former New York City Mayors David Dinkins and Ed Koch, former New York Secretary of State and Governor Paterson’s father Basil Paterson, New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine, Connecticut Governor Jodi Rell, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and many members of the New York Congressional delegation.
His speech began with several moments of humor and introducing the VIP guests and transitioned into discussing the challenges that face New York. Governor Paterson calls for unity and that “We move forward, ever forward together.” Then he said, “It is Monday and there is work to be done. There is a budget that needs to be passed and we will pass it.” Paterson also discussed the economy and said that it appear to “be in crisis.” Paterson tells the story of where he came from and concluded that section of the speech to thunderous applause when he said, “Let me reintroduce myself, I am David Paterson and I am the Governor of New York State.”
