Childers wins Mississippi special election

Democrat Travis Childers has beaten Republican Greg Davis in Mississippi’s special election to fill the vacant House seat once held by Senator Roger Wicker. This is the third straight special election loss in a row for the GOP and has many of the party’s operatives quite worried because of how “safe” the GOP considered them to be (not until recently did the Democrats believe they stood a chance at picking up even one of these seats).

While there are just under six months until the general election, results such as this and the other Democratic wins, could very well spell significant trouble for the GOP’s chances at increasing their ranks in the House of Representatives. It could also be a warning sign not only for races for the Senate, but for John McCain, as consistently Republican areas are not so reliable anymore.
