On this morning’s Face the Nation, retired General Wesley Clark, the former NATO Supreme Allied Commander, blasted John McCain’s military record saying, “He has been a voice on the Senate Armed Services Committee. And he has traveled all over the world. But he hasn’t held executive responsibility. That large squadron in the Navy that he commanded — that wasn’t a wartime squadron,” Clark echoed attacks that Republicans made against McCain in 2000 further saying, “I don’t think getting in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification to become president.” Clark, an Obama supporter, is considered to be on Barack Obama’s VP short list.
Newsweek has posted the story that John McCain failed to pay taxes on his beach house in La Jolla, California. In the story it states that the McCain’s paid the majority of the taxes yesterday and they were paid only after Newsweek asked the campaign for comment.

Barack Obama has donated $2,300, the maximum allowed by law, to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign in an effort to help her retire over $20 million in debt. Obama is also asking his donors to help Clinton with her debt.
During the GOP primaries, John McCain used footage of terrorist groups and at least one terrorist attack in an attempt to gain votes. The ad titled “Experience”, which is below, seems to contradict McCain’s statements from earlier this week when he said he disagreed with his chief adviser Charlie Black over using the reminder of terrorism (used in a context to drum up fear) in a presidential campaign.
In a new reelection ad, Senator Gordon Smith (R-OR), a moderate republican, uses a quote that praises him made by a senate colleague, Barack Obama. Since the summer of 2007, Smith has been emphasizing his moderate positions and anti-Iraq War stance. Obama is very popular in Oregon and Smith hopes that he can ride that popularity to reelection.
