As The Centrist Voice referred to in a previous post, the Obama campaign will be looking at several elected officials, both current and former, to be Senator Obama’s running mate. Names on the list include James Jones, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, John Edwards, Evan Bayh, Kathleen Sebelius, Ted Strickland, Mark Warner, Tim Kaine, Jim Webb, Bill Nelson, Joe Biden, Jack Reed, Joe Biden, Chris Dodd, Tom Daschle, and Sam Nunn.
First, you can take Edwards and Kerry off of the list. Kerry was a bad presidential candidate and would do no better in the VP slot. He is being spoken to because of his early of Obama and his fundraising lists. Edwards has said he does not want to be VP, but is on the short list because he appeals to blue collar Democrats.
Next, pay attention to James Jones. He is a retired Marine Corps general who served in Vietnam and was Supreme Allied Commander of NATO. Currently, he is President Bush’s Middle East envoy. Jones has garnered tremendous Washington buzz about being a VP candidate for both the Democrats and Republicans. This buzz started last summer and left many trying to figure out whether Jones was a Democrat or Republican. If he is on Obama’s short list, he might very well be a Democrat, but MSNBC is reporting that he is an independent.
