Sarah Palin has just performed the ceremonial puck drop at the Philadelphia Flyers’ game against the New York Rangers in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was greeted by a loud chorus of boos and after dropping the puck was quickly rushed off the ice.
Since we could only see Palin’s appearance on TV, we were unable to determine if the Flyers fans had followed the suggestions of Philadelphia sports radio commentators who urged fans to turn their backs when she came out. We hope to have it confirmed from an acquaintance that is attending the game.
Update 1: When the boos began, the arena’s music was turned up to drown out the boos.
Update 2: The first period has just ended with the Flyers losing 4-0 and the Flyers were booed by their fans. These boos were nothing like the boos Palin was exposed to. Also, in interviews with the two New York Rangers from Alaska, Scott Gomez and Brandon Dubinsky, both made it a point stay away from talking politics and came off as not particularly enamored with Palin.
Update 3: Here is some video of Palin’s puck dropping. This video is the best quality we could find and was taken from a different television network than the one we saw it on and seems to have a few more cheers than our DVR suggests. However, we have two videos below the first video, both of them were shot by people attending the game and the boos are much more pronounced.

They are taking this “hockey Mom” theme a bit too far.
Sarah Palin is a joke and hopefully will be impeached by the Alaskan people after the results from Troopergate has come back to bite her in the ass, as it should.

Gomez didn’t seem pleased about her. And he’s from Alaska.

Given that Philadelphia fans, and their radio commentators are known to the be the among the most rude in the nation, it is any surprise that his would be their reaction? So much for sportsmanlike conduct. Phila gets what it deserves. Losers.

I hope she “heard” the boos, but I suspect she’s lived in her own protective bubble for so long, she is incapable of hearing anything she doesn’t want to.
Is she aware that life is not a palin rally with a well-screened and supportive audience?
Hell, the audiences of her rallies are better vetted than she was.

I might become a hockey fan! Clearly, most of the fans are people of taste and intelligence

Philly fans boo Santa Claus and Jumbo Tron marriage proposals. They might not be the most accurate indicator of popularity.

Excuse me, but let’s dynamite the mythology here.
My late father was at the famous “Santa Claus” game. The Santa Eagles’ fans were presented with that day weighed about 140 pounds, had on a drooping cotton beard, was wearing sunglasses, and was obviously plastered. He almost fell out of the car in which he was being driven around the field. THAT’S why he was booed.
I have been to many, many Philadelphia sports events, as I was borned, raised, and still live in the area. I have NEVER heard anyone boo a gianst screen proposal.
EVER.
As for being the rudest fans in the nation, at least we’re not knifing folks and what not like they do at Raiders’ games. At least we show up early and stay till the end. A few bad apples should not result in a whole fan culture being condemned.
And our radio commentators, including the great Harry Kalas, are amongst the best around. Period.
Sarah Palin got booed because she had no business being there. The owner of the Flyers is well-known in these parts for being a big GOP donor and fundraiser. Palin was invited as a “hockey mom,” but this was clearly a political stunt.
As for us being losers, our baseball team is still playing. How about yours?
Namaste, y’all.

Not only is the booing immature, it’s also disrespectful, no matter how much they dislike Sarah Palin. If Barak Obama had been booed like this America would be up in arms. I don’t support Palin or McCain, but I do believe that both candidates should be treated with respect.
