President Bush will deliver the traditional farewell address to the nation on Thursday night.
President Bush has made his fourth and final trip to Iraq today where he sought to highlight the new security agreement between the United States and Iraq. During a joint press conference between President Bush and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, a man in the crowd threw his shoes at President Bush.
President Bush was unharmed in the incident, but apparently White House Press Secretary Dana Perino received a black eye when a microphone struck her in the head during the scuffle that ensued.
President Bush will address the Republican National Convention tonight via satellite.
NBC News is reporting that President Bush might still address the Republican National Convention tomorrow night. The address would be made via satellite instead of in person. The final decision will be made tomorrow morning.
President Bush and Vice President Cheney will miss the Republican National Convention because of Hurricane Gustav.
All signs point to President Bush skipping the Republican National Convention and addressing the nation about Hurricane Gustav tomorrow night.
Update: The address has been canceled.
Meeting with Filipino President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo earlier today, President Bush said the following about Filipino Americans (this is confirmed by a White House transcript):
PRESIDENT BUSH: Madam President, it is a pleasure to welcome you back to the Oval Office. We have just had a very constructive dialogue. First, I want to tell you how proud I am to be the President of a nation that — in which there’s a lot of Philippine-Americans. They love America and they love their heritage. And I reminded the President that I am reminded of the great talent of the — of our Philippine-Americans when I eat dinner at the White House. (Laughter.)
PRESIDENT ARROYO: Yes.
PRESIDENT BUSH: And the chef is a great person and a really good cook, by the way, Madam President.
PRESIDENT ARROYO: Thank you.
