Palin backs out of major GOP event

February 10, 2009

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin (R) has shocked many by backing out of one of the most important conservative events of the year, CPAC. Palin was scheduled to give a keynote address to some of the most involved members of the Republican Party. Her office declined to provide a reason for cancelling the appearance.

CPAC is viewed as a great forum to build momentum for a presidential campaign and many of the potential candidates for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination will be attending and speaking at the event. One GOP insider emailed us asking if Palin’s backing out of CPAC was to avoid any embarassing missteps and being another punchline to a joke. The insider continued and said, “this could be a good strategy, albeit risky, strategy to get a strong grassroots movement to get Palin in the presidential race after the midterms.”

Palin officially becomes grandmother

December 29, 2008

Normally, we try and keep all things related to children out of our blog posts, as they deserve a measure of privacy, but this story we thought deserved a small measure of attention… more accurately, it is a slow news week (other than Israel’s attacking Hamas in Gaza).

Sarah Palin can now officially be called a grandmother. Her eldest daughter Bristol gave birth to a baby boy yesterday in Alaska.

Cue Andrew Sullivan’s reviving the questions about the circumstances of the birth of Trigg Palin.

Gingrich says Palin not GOP frontrunner for 2012

November 16, 2008

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich (R-GA) told Face the Nation this morning that Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is not as big a player in the Republican Party as others have made her out to be. “I think that she is going to be a significant player, but she’s going to be one of 20 or 30 significant players. She’s not going to be the de facto leader.” said Gingrich. The comment was a subtle swipe at the claim that Palin is the frontrunner for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination.

GOP sends lawyer to Alaska to get clothes back from Palin

November 6, 2008

The Republican Party has dispatched a lawyer to Alaska to get back the $150,000 plus worth of clothing that the Republican National Committee bought for Sarah Palin. When it was first revealed that the purchases had been made, Palin claimed that the majority had been given to the RNC and were no longer in her possession. However, according to two of our sources, as well as numerous media reports, the clothing is still in Palin’s possession.

Palin is reported to have outfitted her entire family in clothing, accessories and other goods. It is reported that upwards of $40,000 was spent on Todd Palin and Palin’s youngest daughter, Piper, was seen carrying a several thousand dollar designer handbag.

Said one of our sources who worked in the McCain campaign, “There is no question that Sarah Palin used this campaign for her own political and material gain. She came in with the attitude of ‘how do I make this benefit me in every way possible?’ while not focusing 100% on getting John McCain elected.”

November 5, 2008

Palin prank called by Canadian talk show; thought she was talking to French President Sarkozy

November 1, 2008

In the prank call the fake President Sarkozy tells Palin that he can see Belgium from his house, references his love for “killing those animals” and makes reference to the Hustler pornographic movie made about her. The caller also said that Stef Carse was Canada’s prime minister and that French singer Johny Halliday was his “special American adviser.”

Top McCain supporter & former Secretary of State Eagleburger says Palin not ready

October 31, 2008

Former Secretary of State Lawrence Eagleburger, a top McCain supporter, said in an interview with NPR that Sarah Palin is not ready to take over the presidency if needed. Said Eagleburger:

I don’t think at the moment she is prepared to take over the reins of the presidency. I can name for you any number of other vice presidents who were not particularly up to it either. So the question, I think, is can she learn and would she be tough enough under the circumstances if she were asked to become president, heaven forbid that that ever takes place?

In the wake of Colin Powell’s endorsement of Barack Obama, where he stated Palin did not have the experience to be vice president, both John McCain and Sarah Palin dismissed Powell’s charge by citing Eagleburger’s endorsement of McCain.

McCain responds to RNC’s buying Palin $150k worth of clothes; says she needed them

October 23, 2008

John McCain has weighed in on the revelation that the Republican National Committee spent $150,000 on clothes for Sarah Palin and her family. At a campaign stop in Florida McCain told a crowd, “She needed clothes at the time.”

McCain’s argument doesn’t hold water. Governor Palin seems to have had clothes before being tapped as McCain’s running mate. While it is conceivable that she did not pack enough clothing for the initial start of campaigning (in late August she was flown to McCain’s Arizona ranch, offered the vice presidency, immediately taken to Ohio for the VP announcement and did not return to Alaska until around September 10), Palin could have purchased clothes from less expensive stores, not purchased $150,000 worth of clothing, or had an aide coming from Alaska bring clothing from her home.

McCain campaign seems to back off release of Palin’s medical records

October 23, 2008

In an interview with NBC News’ Brian Williams, Sarah Palin surprised many and agreed to release her medical records. However, the McCain campaign seems to be delaying releasing Palin’s medical records. Spokeswoman Maria Comella told ABC News: “When medical information related to Governor Palin’s health is ready to be released we will make that information available.”

Comella declined to answer when the records would be released.
